Risk assessment – the basic tool

Nowadays, risk assessment through group work is a basic tool of occupational safety and health care at the workplace. TrimMare introduced this approach to seafarers.
 
Risk assessment at the workplace identifies the dangers that employees are exposed to during the course of their work, and it assesses the risks associated with those dangers. A danger may be a sudden event or long-term exposure. For instance, it assesses the impacts of exposure to noise on an employee’s hearing.

Risk assessment covers all aspects of work and risks, and the entire workforce falls within the sphere of assessment. Assessments are carried out in cooperation with employees. Risk levels, their significance and degree of importance are determined together. This helps with focusing and timing improvements.
