On 19 December 2008, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health issued a statement that the MEL insurance contribution will not increase from the beginning of 2009; it will remain at 22% of a salary (employer contribution 11% and employee contribution 11%).

The Seafarer’s Pension Fund will conduct a study on technical provisions in autumn 2009. Based on the results of the study, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health will decide on insurance contributions for 2010.
