Applying for disability pension
You should consider applying for disability pension when sickness allowance has been paid for 150 days. At that time, Kela informs you when payment of the sickness allowance will end and how to ascertain the possibilities for rehabilitation and to apply for a pension.
You can apply for a preliminary decision concerning a partial disability pension while still in full-time employment. Upon receiving the preliminary decision, you have nine months to agree with your employer on lightening your work. Your pension can start when your earnings fall to 60% of your previous earnings. You can receive partial disability pension even if you finish working altogether.
You can fill in and print out the pension application form (pdf, available in Finnish) and send it to the Seafarer’s Pension Fund.
Answer the questions on the form carefully and enclose medical statement B with your application.
The Seafarer’s Pension Fund will process your pension application if your last employment contract is insured with us. If you have worked in municipal or State employment in addition to the private sector, you will receive from us a decision that combines the pensions in accordance with all these systems. The Seafarer’s Pension Fund will also pay your entire earnings-based pension.
