Your pension is paid on the last working day of each month when banks are open.

If you do not enclose your tax information with your pension application, the Seafarer’s Pension Fund has to deduct tax from your pension at a rate of 60 per cent. We return the excess levied tax once we have received your tax card, provided your tax card is valid retroactively.

You can go to work if you receive an old-age pension, and your earnings do not affect your pension.

In addition to diminished work capacity, another requisite for receiving disability pension or cash rehabilitation benefit is a decrease in earnings. The requirements for receiving disability pension must exist throughout the entire period of being on the pension. Disability pension is suspended when the work capacity of the pension recipient has been restored to a level where he or she no longer fulfils the requirements for receiving the pension. A person on disability pension can engage in gainful employment to some extent.

If the earnings of a person while on full disability pension exceed 40 per cent of the average earnings on which the pension is based, consideration is given to converting the pension into partial disability pension.  If the earnings of a person while on full disability pension exceed 60 per cent of the average earnings on which the pension is based, the pension may be discontinued.

A person on partial disability pension can also work. If your earnings exceed 60 per cent of the average earnings on which the partial disability pension is based, consideration is given to discontinuing the pension. The Seafarer’s Pension Fund must always be notified of a change in earnings.

You must always notify the Seafarer’s Pension Fund if you go to work.

If you receive unemployment pension, you can engage in gainful employment with a monthly income limit of 656,08 euros in 2011. Payment of your pension is suspended for those months when your earnings exceed this amount. If your gainful employment lasts for more than one year, the pension is discontinued altogether. You must notify the Seafarer’s Pension Fund if you go to work while on unemployment pension.

A child’s pension ends when the child reaches the age of 18.

The Kela general survivors’ pension is also paid to children aged 18-20 who are full-time students. You should contact a Kela office for information about Kela benefits.

The surviving spouse’s pension ends due to remarriage only if the surviving spouse is less than 50 years of age at the time of remarrying.
