Part-time work
Shorter working hours
In order to be awarded a part-time pension, you must reduce your working hours. You can do this by changing the terms and conditions of your existing employment contract or by entering into a new part-time employment contract. Part-time work can be work performed at sea or on land.
You will need to reduce your workload so that part-time working hours amount to no less than 35 per cent and no more than 70 per cent of the full-time working hours under the system of rotation applied on board the vessel. For seamen, the required reduction in working hours is achieved by changing the ratio of time on duty and off duty in the rotation system.
Transferring to a part-time pension does not affect your retirement age if you are working part-time at sea. Lowering retirement age is the same as for full-time employment.
A reduction in earnings
Receiving a part-time pension also requires you to reduce your workload, which will result in a corresponding change in your earnings. Your earnings may amount to 35–70 per cent of your stabilised earnings. Your stabilised earnings are calculated from your average earnings for the five calendar years preceding part-time pension.
In order to calculate the pension, we require information about your average monthly income for the part-time job. This takes into consideration all earnings subject to withholding tax throughout the year, including additional payments (e.g. holiday compensation and benefits in kind).
