General and earned retirement age for crews

If you are a crew member, your general retirement age is 63-68 years of age.

Your earned or lower retirement age is 55-63 years of age. The earliest possible age that a crew member can retire is 55, which requires 420 months, or 35 years of service at sea. A crew member’s earned retirement age is calculated to the exact month in the same way as the retirement age for a ship’s officer, i.e. by subtracting from the age of 63 years the months of service at sea that exceed 324 months.

Example of the retirement age for a crew member
Marja Myrskynen, with 416 months of service at sea, will receive her pension at the age of 55 years and 4 months.

Table showing the retirement age and service at sea for crew members to the exact year

 55 yrs  35 v = 420 mths
 56 yrs  34 v = 408 mths
 57 yrs  33 v = 396 mths
 58 yrs  32 v = 384 mths
 59 yrs  31 v = 372 mths
 60 yrs  30 v = 360 mths
 61 yrs  29 v = 348 mths
 62 yrs  28 v = 336 mths
 63 yrs  27 v = 324 mths
