If you are a ship’s officer, your general retirement age is 63-68 years of age.
Your earned or lower retirement age is 60-63 years of age. The earliest possible earned retirement age for a ship’s officer is 60. Your earned retirement age is calculated to the exact month by subtracting from the age of 63 years the months of service at sea that exceed 324 months.
Example of the retirement age for a ship’s officer
Kari Luoto is a first mate, with 350 months of service at sea. He will reach his earned retirement age at the age of 60 years and 10 months. This was calculated by subtracting 26 months, i.e. two years and two months, from the age of 63. The exact calculation is 350 – 324, i.e. 26 months.
