The methods of rehabilitation within the earnings-related pension scheme are

• trial work and job coaching at the workplace
• retraining, apprenticeship training and courses leading to a job or vocational occupation

Trial work can be arranged at your workplace or some other workplace. The idea is to find out how well suited the new job tasks are for the rehabilitee’s state of health and vocational preparedness. Trial work can also be used to ease the rehabilitee’s return to work after a prolonged period of sick leave or disability. Sometimes it is necessary to try out different work arrangements in order to find a suitable job. Job coaching can be used to learn new tasks. Courses and other training can be linked to the job-coaching period.

Vocational training may be appropriate when arrangements at the workplace are insufficient. The new occupation or occupational orientation must be appropriate when considering the sickness. It should also support employment opportunities after the training. Training may take the form of courses or vocational training or even university studies in line with the needs and situation of each individual rehabilitee. Support can also be given to apprenticeship training. Apprenticeship training refers to practical learning on the job. Learning is supplemented through theoretical courses arranged at vocational institutes or adult education centres. The principle of rehabilitation within the earnings-related pension scheme is that rehabilitation does not start out by aiming to raise the level of education, so the primary objective is to seek a new vocation at the same level.

A business subsidy is a low interest loan or allowance to start up one’s own business, to modify existing business activities or to carry on a trade. The criterion is that there are realistic prospects for entrepreneurship and that the rehabilitee can earn a livelihood through the said activities.
