How will the lower limit of the retirement pension age be changed?

The chance to earn an earlier retirement age will be removed at the end of 2024. During the transition period from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2024, it will be possible to earn a lower retirement age and to retire at an earlier retirement age in accordance with the rules and regulations valid as of 31 December 2015.

After the transition period, as of 1 January 2025, an employee has the right to retire at the lowered retirement age they have earned by 31 December 2024, provided that they also meet the other requirements for receiving a lowered retirement pension:

  • the MEL employment continues until the retirement age;
  • 18 MEL months within the previous three years
  • the MEL employment is terminated.

    As of the beginning of 2016, the lowered retirement age will be calculated so that sea service months exceeding 300 months are reduced from the age of 65. This change will take into account the retirement age changes in the 2017 pension reform.
