About Seafarers' Pension Fund

Welcome to learn more about the Seafarers’ Pension Fund!

Seafarers' Pension Fund (MEK) is an earnings-related pension provider responsible for the statutory pension cover of seafarers. The Fund grants and pays out MEL pensions based on employment. Its operations are governed by the Seafarers’ Pensions Act.

Established in 1956, the Fund is the oldest statutory earnings-related pension provider in the private sector. The financing of future pensions is secured through long-term, responsible and profitable investment activities.

In this section, you will find information about the Fund’s history, management and organisation. We also publish our annual results here. You will also find basic information about cottages in Ylläs available for rent to seafarers. Reservations are made via the Loki service.

We provide services in Finnish, Swedish and English. You can contact us electronically via the Loki service or by phone.
