Seafaring occupations

We present here some seafaring occupations.

When working onboard, you spend time with your co-workers both at work and during leisure, so adaptation and coping skills are needed. The size of the work community varies; for example, passenger ships have larger crews than cargo ships. The onboard community includes both officers and crew.

For vessels sailing under the Finnish flag, the rotation system 1:1 is applicable. The length of one rotation period varies usually from one week to 6 weeks.

The rotation system is demanding in terms of family and social life. The long leaves, however, provide opportunities to stay longer periods ashore and at home.

Work at sea means that you must move around, carry items and lift loads often in difficult working positions while the ship is rolling or swaying. Thus, a good physical and mental condition is a necessity.
