The Seafarers' Pension Fund's work ability coordinators support shipping company employers in managing potential disability risks by providing advice and guidance on work ability matters. Each employer has a designated work ability coordinator they can contact for advice and guidance on employment pension matters.

Rehabilitation pathway

The work ability coordinators process the disability pension applications and vocational rehabilitation applications received by the Seafarers' Pension Fund. They are also responsible for the related customer service and advice. When necessary, a medical expert and the chief legal counsel take part in the processing.

The work ability coordinators are involved throughout the vocational rehabilitation process. They meet the rehabilitation client and the service provider at least once during the process. Each rehabilitation client has a named work ability coordinator who handles their matters. The coordinators are closely involved in planning and monitoring work trials carried out at the workplace as vocational rehabilitation.

Guidance meetings

Clients whose disability pension application has been rejected are offered a guidance meeting. The meeting reviews the client's overall situation and aims to support their return to working life. Vocational rehabilitation options can be used to support the return to work.

Events and cooperation

The work ability coordinators take part in information sessions organised by the Seafarers' Pension Fund, the Maritime Work Ability Forum and trade fairs such as Maritime Day and the Maritime Fair in Turku. They also attend shipping companies' information and training events and meetings with shipping companies. In addition, they take part in employment pension sector working groups, such as the rehabilitation affairs group and the group responsible for employment pension rehabilitation statistics.
