If you are granted rehabilitation within the earnings-related pension system, your income during rehabilitation will consist of either a rehabilitation allowance or a cash rehabilitation benefit with a rehabilitation increment, depending on your situation.

Rehabilitation allowance

The rehabilitation allowance is equal to the amount of disability pension increased by 33%. It is paid during active rehabilitation carried out in accordance with an approved rehabilitation plan, such as a work trial, job coaching or studies.

Working during rehabilitation

If you work during rehabilitation and earn more than half of the established earnings on which your disability pension would be calculated, you will receive a partial rehabilitation allowance. It is half of the full rehabilitation allowance. If your employer pays you a salary during rehabilitation, the rehabilitation allowance is paid to your employer up to the amount of your salary. If your salary is lower than the rehabilitation allowance, the difference is paid to you.

Rehabilitation increment to the cash rehabilitation benefit

If you have already been granted a fixed-term disability pension, also known as a cash rehabilitation benefit, you will receive a 33% increment to this benefit during active rehabilitation.

Discretionary rehabilitation assistance for the waiting period

If you are waiting for your rehabilitation programme to begin and have no other income, you may receive rehabilitation assistance. It is discretionary and equal to the amount your disability pension would be without the rehabilitation increment.

Rehabilitation costs

We may reimburse study, travel and other costs arising from rehabilitation within the earnings-related pension system in accordance with separate guidelines. Reimbursements are discretionary and may not cover all actual costs.
