Security of supply transports for Finnish vessels must be continued on 18 June. ahead. The use of foreign passenger ships for similar tasks must be stopped immediately. Seven vessels flying the Finnish flag have secured Finnish import and export transports during the Korona pandemic. The financial support granted to Finnish ships for security of supply transports ends on 18 June and there is no information about the future. The security of supply support for vessels flying the Finnish flag must be continued, as otherwise there are no preconditions for operating traffic to Finland. In the spring, the Security of Supply Center also granted financial support to Tallink's M / s Megastar flying the Estonian flag and M / s Galaxy flying the Swedish flag. At the same time, the Finnish passenger ships Viking Line M / s Mariella and TallinkSilja's M / s Silja Serenade and their crews have been laid off. There is no justification for allocating financial support to ships flying a foreign flag while the emergency laws are in force. The work of the vessels must be given immediately to Finnish shipping companies and seafarers. The Korona pandemic has driven Finnish shipping companies into major financial problems as a result of the stoppage of passenger traffic. The Finnish-flagged passenger ships employ 4,800 seafarers, almost all of whom have been laid off throughout the spring. Work on cargo ships has also ceased, as cargo contracts have not been extended due to uncertain economic times. More than 1,900 seafarers work on Finnish cargo ships. Redundancies have also been seen in Finnish shipping companies, and hard times have been experienced, especially in Åland, where the livelihoods of many families depend entirely on shipping. The Finnish state must now do its utmost to ensure that work on ships flying the Finnish flag continues. The security of supply agreements for Finnish ships must be extended on 18 June 2020. The employment of vessels flying a foreign flag must be stopped and support must be directed to rescue Finnish tonnage and seafarers. Restaurants will be allowed to open their doors on June 1. So far, there are no decisions on passenger transport by ship. The Seafarers' Union demands that short sea shipping be opened up in a limited and controlled manner from 1 June 2020 with temporary exceptional measures, taking into account the guidelines issued by the European Commission on 13 May 2020 for safe holiday tourism and the revitalization of the tourism industry. If passenger ships lose the summer season that is now beginning, it will cause a bad economic imprint with a delay, which will lead to the sale of Finnish ships and the loss of jobs at sea. Finland cannot afford to lose its functioning shipping and seafaring skills. If the financial support for vessels flying the Finnish flag is not extended on 18 June 2020 and the aid is still granted to foreign vessels, Finnish transports from Vaasa down to the ports of Southern Finland threaten to be endangered.
