The new Länsituuli Shopping Centre in Tapiola further enhances the appeal of the area

The opening of the Länsituuli shopping centre on Thursday, 22 April 2021 contributes to the successful development of the Tapiola area in Espoo. The shopping centre’s name, Länsituuli, literally ‘west wind’, derives from its street address at Länsituuli 10, but the name also brings to mind the warm, favourable western sea breeze often blowing in Tapiola. The maritime aspect is also marked by the fact that the property owner and lessor of the commercial premises is the Seafarers’ Pension Fund.

Its location in the heart of Tapiola and the excellent metro and bus connections will attract customers to visit Länsituuli for shopping, dining and doing business. The range of services offered at Länsituuli will further enhance the commercial appeal of Tapiola.

“The population of the Tapiola area is expected to grow by about 15 percent by the year 2028. The growth creates great opportunities for the future of the new shopping centre and the stores therein. The restaurants at Länsituuli open up to the street areas and terraces are currently being planned,” explains Tuija Fräntilä, Real Estate Manager for the Länsituuli shopping centre.

New passage routes in Tapiola

The Länsituuli shopping centre will also provide a new direct indoor passage from Sampotori to the metro and bus terminal. Close collaboration with the adjacent AINOA shopping centre will be natural since these shopping centres are connected with each other through two underground floors. The shared passage routes will make it easy for customers to move around.

Environmental and energy efficient business and residential buildings

The high-quality building complex accommodates more than 20 rental premises of various sizes for business and services, covering a total area of approx. 6,000 square metres. In addition, seven floors of residential flats that form a separate housing company are being built above the shopping centre. There will be a total of 93 residential flats to be completed in late summer.

Environmental and energy efficiency are key factors in the design of the buildings. The aim is to earn the Gold rating in the international LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
