In the spring of 2024, the Seafarers' Pension Fund created an AI strategy for the years 2024–2026 that aligns with MEK's business strategy. Our goal is to enhance the customer and employee experience with the aid of artificial intelligence. Moreover, we aim to use diverse data more effectively.  

We want to ensure that data security and the specific characteristics of our industry are taken into account as we increase the use of AI at MEK. The AI strategy provides the board and management with a strategic roadmap and a practical tool to guide operations in the coming years. Our vision is to use AI boldly, innovatively, responsibly, and securely. 

Guidelines for Responsible AI 

A set of guidelines for responsible AI use was created for the staff, helping in the responsible use of AI. The fundamental principle for using AI is that AI solutions must not compromise MEK's reliability. We do not input confidential material into AI, and all decisions and outcomes are always the responsibility of a human. 

The entire MEK staff participated in creating the strategy through workshops on various topics. The project was carried out in collaboration with experts from Sofigate, and together, over a hundred use cases were conceived where AI can be utilized in various MEK operations. 

We have taken the first steps towards broader utilization of AI. We are also working on developing a closed AI environment, which will enable efficient and secure handling of confidential data in the future. Considering the AI Act and data security in our strategic work ensures that our operations remain responsible and compliant with regulations.
