Psychological safety in the maritime work environment - survey to a thesis
I am a final-year bachelor of maritime
management student at Yrkeshögskolan Novia, and in my thesis I am exploring the
importance of psychological safety in the maritime work environment. I
chose this topic because I wanted to focus on something personally meaningful
to me and relevant to the maritime field.
This survey consists of 22 questions and takes approximately 5
minutes to complete, based on the average of responses given so far.
I hope to receive responses from everyone working at sea. The most
comprehensive research material would come from a wide range of participants –
including officers, deck crew, engine crew, and other professionals working
onboard. You are welcome to participate even if you have not yet graduated, as
long as you have done internships in a maritime work environment. Please feel
free to share this survey with others who might be interested in the topic.
The research uses data from the Finnish Seafarer’s Pension Fund registry and is
partially funded by a grant from the Finnish Maritime Foundation. No
personal data is collected from the participants of the survey; the survey is
completely anonymous. The response data will be destroyed no later than one
year after the completion of the study and my thesis.
The deadline for responses is 05.04.2026. The survey will remain
open for an exceptionally long period in order to take into account the nature
of maritime work and thus enable as many participants as possible to have
sufficient time to respond at their convenience.
With kind regards,
