Bore received the first Ove Ericsson Award for the promotion of health and well-being at work
The first ever Ove Ericsson Award for the promotion of health and well-being at work has been granted to Bore Ltd as recognition of the shipping company’s long-term systematic, successful and significant work to advance seafarers’ well-being at work and health. Preventive occupational health care provides a foundation for employees’ good health and ability to work as well as their psychosocial well-being. The company’s leadership is committed to supporting the well-being of the personnel and developing proactive measures. The value of the award is 1,900 euro to be used to further develop the well-being at work activities.
“A few years ago, we initiated the Bore Fit programme, including a playful challenge to determine the most active teams among various vessels and offices. As a reward, the most active teams have received extra funds for recreational activities of their choice. Within the Bore Fit health promotion programme, we have also distributed information on good ways to keep fit and train on board”, explains Katarina Hildén, VP, Administration and Crewing Development at Bore Ltd.
According to Katarina Hildén, the role of diet and nutrition will be the next focus of the programme. Sonja Koivisto, Crew HR Management, Bore Crewing Department, is responsible for the implementation and development of the Bore Fit programme. The collaboration between the shipping company and the OHS focuses on preventive health care. Ville Ollikainen, Agency Crew and Health Care Management, Bore Crewing Department, is responsible for the realisation of the OHS focal areas and the development of activities.
On behalf of the shipping company and its crewing department, Katarina Hildén extends her warmest thanks to the Seafarers’ Pension Fund for the award and encourages each individual to take care of their health and working ability.
The Ove Ericsson Award for the promotion of health and well-being at work will be distributed annually during 2021–2026 from funds received as a testamentary donation. The value of the annual award is 1,900 euro. It is granted to a seafarer or shipping company that has most successfully contributed to the promotion of seafarers’ health and well-being at work.
