The Seafarers’ Pension Fund has decided to aid those suffering from the catastrophe in Ukraine by donating a total of EUR 27,400 to the Finnish Red Cross and Unicef. The donation sum was based on the number of pension recipients and insured individuals in the Fund (2 euro/person). This is our way of showing our support for the people of Ukraine.

The life expectancy coefficient confirmed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health for 2022 is 0.94659. The life expectancy coefficient now confirmed reduces the old-age pension of those born in 1960 who begin to receive their earnings-related old-age pension in 2022 or later by 5.341 per cent.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has confirmed the earnings-related pension index rates for 2022. The earnings-related pension index will increase by approximately 2.28 per cent in comparison to 2021. The new pension index is 2691. All currently paid earnings-related pensions are adjusted according to this index.

A tax treaty was concluded between Finland and Spain, which was agreed to apply after a transition period. The tax treaty provides that if you receive pension from Finland, you must pay tax to Finland even if you live in Spain. 1 January 2022, you must also pay tax to Finland on earnings-related pension received from the private sector. Seafarers' pension is such a pension. Usually tax treaties provide that if double taxation occurs, it will be eliminated by the individual’s country of residence. Exceptionally, however, the tax treaty with Spain states that double taxation on pension income will be eliminated in the country of source. This is called reverse credit.
