The Seafarers’ Pension Fund remains on a solid footing amid changes in the operating environment
In 2025, a total of 7,516 persons were insured under the Seafarers’ Pension Fund, and the payroll exceeded EUR 305 million. The number of pension recipients was 7,424. According to the unaudited financial statements, the return on investments in 2025 was 6.2 per cent, and the market value of investments amounted to EUR 1,479 million.

Incorrect Tax Rate in Pension Notifications
Due to a technical error, the amount of pension after tax shown in the 2026 pension letters sent via the Logg service has been calculated using a 40% tax rate. The error concerns only the withholding tax amount displayed in the letter and does not affect the actual amount of the pension or its payment.
The Seafarers’ Pension Fund (MEK) has sold its entire residential portfolio to Premico Asuntosalkku 4 Ky, an investment vehicle established together with Premico. The transaction comprises a total of 463 apartments across eight residential properties located in Helsinki, Turku and Mariehamn.

In 2024, the number of insured persons increased to 7,568 (7,226), and the total payroll rose by 8.8 percent, exceeding 300 million euros. Newly reflagged vessels under the Finnish flag contributed to increased travel activity, leading to the share of passenger shipping rising to 53.9 percent of the total payroll.

The earnings-related pension index will increase by approximately 1,3 per cent in comparison to 2024. The new pension index is 3077. All currently paid or latest 1.12.2024 starting earnings-related pensions are adjusted according to this index.
